The last few weeks and months have been filled with news that is divisive and destructive to hope in our world. In response to the current state of affairs, I chose to use my latest column for the Global Sisters Report as an opportunity to meditate on the virtue of humility and the grace that it has to offer at this time in our lives and the life of our world. Yesterday marks one month since I arrived at Be Like Brit, and tomorrow marks one month since I officially began working here. First months in a new position at a new place, are both simultaneously challenging and easy. Challenging because there is so much to learn, and easy because people are patient since the new person has much to learn.

A few months from now, it will be hard to remember that there was ever a time when I did not know the names of each of the children or their caregivers. Eventually, in addition to names, children's individual personalities and preferences will be revealed and known to me. Certainly, some of the faces I'm still struggling to recall names for will be etched in my memory and carried forever in my heart.

What is happening to our Church?
Just when it seemed there could not possibly be one more report of clergy sexual abuse, there was.
Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania grand jury released its report about the terrible abuse of hundreds of people. The report also highlighted the complicity of Church officials who routinely concealed the truth about clergy sexual predation, allowing the evil to continue.
Margaret Gonsalves is a Sister for Christian Community and feminist theologian active in the Ecclesia of Women in Asia and Indian Women Theologian's Forum. As founder of ANNNI Charitable Trust, she networks with nongovernmental organizations to run free residential programs in intensive spoken English, sustainable development skills, and workshops for the empowerment of indigenous girls and women.
Sister Emily Brabham, OSF, is a Sister of St. Francis of Clinton, Iowa and is the campus minister for social justice formation at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
