The other night we walked over to the lake for sunset. A perfectly gorgeous end-of-summer evening, all was in harmony.

After Liturgy on Sunday, we invited our friend Betty Carl to join us to drive up to Sica Hollow State Park, "up in the Hills."

We attended another formation weekend in Villa Maria, PA. These are formation weekends where we hear a speaker while interacting with others in initial formation from different communities as well as those journeying with us. Nancy Schreck, a Franciscan sister, spoke to us on the vow of poverty, in a conversation titled, “The Terrible Grace of Poverty.” She gave us great food for mental fodder.
In many small towns across the US, "Homecoming Weekend" is a Really Big Deal for almost the entire community.
Tiospa Zina's Homecoming Activities started Friday afternoon, with an all-school parade. Sr. Francine and I offered to help the students on the homemade floats test out their Candy Throwing Arm by allowing them to throw candy to us as they got ready for the start of the parade:
She didn’t have any broken legs or arms, no visible cuts or bruises, but she was clearly in pain. For this young woman it was emotional pain. To anyone who responded to her, this twenty-something young adult poured out her heart and her life story.
Today, September 11, is the Feast of St. Jean-Gabriel Perboyre, C.M. He was a missioner to China and a holy martyr. FamVin describes the life of this courageous man who, "walked through the bitter valley and made it a place of springs," (Psalm 84:6).
Last week we enjoyed our once-a-year treat...a sailboat ride offered by a friend and supporter of the community. One cannot complain too much about that. It was a beautiful evening, just enough wind to tip the boat just enough to frighten some, and a colorful evening sky to boot. Again, one cannot complain too much about that. We here in Erie savor, soak up, and relish in these moments, storing them up in our spiritual muscle memory for winter hibernation.
Mary has many titles and many feast days in her honor, but today, September 8, we celebrate the birth of Mary and the blessing she was to her parents, Joachim and Anne.
