5 Bible Verses on the Importance of Giving

By Maria Bohan
It’s easy to get swept up in our busy lives—there’s always another project at work or a family member that needs help.

When we’ve finally satisfied all of our obligations, it seems like there’s nothing better than binging on the latest season of that show everyone’s talking about.

There’s no shame in taking time for oneself, but in the chaos of our daily routines, many of us forget how blessed we are to live with few serious worries.

We know that there will be food on the table and water running from the tap. For the poor and disadvantaged people you rarely see in your social media feed, however, these basic necessities are not guaranteed.

Worldwide Day of Giving, a day when we’re encouraged to donate our time or income to a worthy individual or organization, is Friday, June 15th.

Here are five Bible verses to inspire your participation in Worldwide Day of Giving:

  1. “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” Proverbs 3:27
  2.  “A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.” Proverbs 18:16
  3.  Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21
  4. “Give generously and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.” Deuteronomy 15:10
  5. “In everything, I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Jesus, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35
