As a people of faith we are being called to stand up and be steadfast in faith to resist these fears. It is important to raise our Prayers and Voices in solidarity with others whose human rights are being violated. We need to stand with those who are being deprived of human dignity and in need of protection. This includes the protection of species and earth. God has entrusted us to care for all of creation. Solidarity is imperative.

We were praying under this vast sky in view of these incredible mountains and this exquisite sacred land. It stirred something in my soul. It spoke to something I think a lot of us are missing today because we’re so compartmentalized and disconnected from nature. To be outdoors on this sacred land was absolutely breathtaking, cleansing and an incredible spiritual experience. The experience at Standing Rock has profoundly changed my life.
During this season of Advent, Giving Voice is excited to highlight reflections by Catholic women religious. We’ve compiled a list of Advent reflections from women’s religious communities and made them available for all to enjoy.
With so many communities producing fantastic reflections, we felt this would be an easy way to assemble them together and promote the good wisdom of women religious!
What can I say about gratitude in this time of divisiveness in our country and world?
Amid what can seem like chaos and destruction, gratitude is what we need most. As my discernment coordinator reminds me, "growth is not always pain free." Gratitude can help shift challenging experiences to times of growth and transformation.
Women religious in their 20s and 30s are invited and encouraged to join us for a retreat this January 13-15 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery in Phoenix, AZ. The retreat will include time for individual and communal prayer, shared reflection and conversation, as well as break time to have fun and get to know one another. Giving Voice uses the principles of The Circle Way as a basic format and process for our gatherings.
