In the Gospel from October 12, the message was to pray always and persistently. The homily really focused on how often times it is just easier to pray rote prayers, focus our prayer on other’s needs or when we need something right now. The priest reminded us of the importance of praying ahead of time.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
It has been a gift and a beautiful experience to be able to travel to the border with the Giving Voice sisters, Julia Walsh, Tracy Kemme, and Priscilla Torres, among other sisters who accompanied us to participate in the March for Immigrant Justice organized by SOA Watch. It is important for each of us to work for justice for immigrants. Here I want to echo the words Benedict XVI spoke some years ago:
The Giving Voice Core Team is excited to announce that registration for January's 20s & 30s Retreat and July's National Gathering is now open!
These peer-led gatherings are wonderful opportunities for younger women religious to connect for prayer, reflection, conversation and relationship building. This time and space to discern where God is calling the future of religious life is absolutely crucial.
During the October 7-10 Convergence At The Border program sponsored by the School of America's Watch, Giving Voice sisters, associates, and supporters participated in prayerful and peaceful witnesses that called for an end to violence, supported immigration reform, and lifted up the human dignity of all God's people. The Giving Voice sponsored "Encuentro" brought advocates together for connection, dialogue and action planning. Numerous reflections from the event can be accessed below. Check out this fantastic witness!
Giving Voice joins the The Sisters of St. Francis of Dubuque, IA in mourning the loss of Sister Mary Romona Colling, OSF. Sister Colling was a great friend to Giving Voice having compiled our mail at the motherhouse in Dubuque for several years and sending it on to our office in Chicago.
We are grateful to Sister Colling for her generous service to the organization and give thanks to God for the life and ministry of our faithful friend.
Don't forget that you can read more reflections by younger women religious in the regular Horizons column on Global Sisters Report.
