Our Shared Mission
We are on a mission. We are living the life and bringing the gospel to those we meet in our words and actions. It is very important to me that we are doing this together. As I reflect on the particular mission of younger women religious I can't help but think one of the most important things we're doing now is building a network of relationships, which will somehow be the "seedbed" of the Spirit's leading us into the future.
I've been in a number of conversations recently about what a smaller religious life will look like. Right now that's harder to imagine with the amount of loss on the horizon in the next 10-15 years. However, through our relationships we are planting the seeds for whatever will come.
Building relationships with one another – especially for younger Sisters can take many forms:
- Gather the local "young nuns" in your area for prayer, support, meaningful conversations. For example, I recently attended "Young Nun Valentine Bowling" in Chicago. We bowled, shared Valentine treats, and shared our reflections and observations on how religious life has changed in the past 10 years.
- Immerse yourself in the network. Regular Skype calls, phone calls, text messages, and Facebook posts nourish us as we are geographically spread across the country. On Facebook we form meaningful connections with people we have not yet met in person.
- There's nothing like meeting in person. The July Gathering is a great way to broaden your network, join in the conversation, and live the mission! I hope to see you there.
