We were thrilled to see many familiar names and photos from our 2019 National Gathering in this month's edition of U.S. Catholic. Visit their website link below to read writer Jessica Mesman's fantastic piece on Giving Voice!
I came back from a summer away, where I had experiences that rejuvenated and refreshed me. I expected to return to my convent and ministry ready to reengage in the same, because my assignment wasn’t changing. But as I tried to step back into old routines, I found that something had changed. Me! I couldn’t resume old attitudes and patterns of behavior. I could feel myself turning within, positioning myself for newness.
Chero Chuma, CSJP and Jessi Beck, PBVM will complete their final month as Core Team Members this December. We thank Chero and Jessi for their leadership! Their role as Core Team members has strengthened the organization, by their work on the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation grant, representing Giving Voice at numerous conferences and events, helping plan retreats and the National Gathering, and contributing their vast array of leadership skills to our organization. Chero and Jessi will be missed.
"It was really a privilege to be asked to represent Giving Voice at the RFC congress this year. Being a part of Giving Voice has been a blessing for me especially as an immigrant in a religious congregation that is predominantly Caucasian, and where there is a large age and experience gap between me and several of my Sisters."
We are thrilled to announce that after several months of work, Giving Voice’s new website is live! Our website will provide an extensive internal sister-only portal with an interactive map and online directory tool to search for sisters across the US & world, a wiki-section where sisters can post and edit information to share, a “conversations” section where sisters can discuss topics close to their hearts, and an “events” section where sisters can submit local and national, live and in-person events to a collective calendar!
Giving Voice will open our office during National Vocation Awareness Week Nov 3-9 for a new event, a “Meet Our Sisters Chicago Tour.” The #2019MeetOurSisters tour is being organized in collaboration with Chicago-area members of Communicators for Women Religious, an organization of which Giving Voice both partners and collaborates.
Giving Voice Sisters who have made first or perpetual vows are invited to participate in an anonymous, 25-question survey entitled “Women Religious and the New Cosmology.” The survey serves as an initial investigation into a research project being carried out by Laurie Brink, OP and Rhonda Miska, OP: “How does Jesus Christ function within the New Cosmology, and what are the implications of that role for Catholic Women Religious for whom a relationship with Christ is constitutive of their vocation?”
