Voices of Younger Women Religious – Reflection on Mission & Ministry

Serving the needs of the poor; educating for life; proclaiming the goodness of God; living the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in the 21st Century.

I am blessed to be currently ministering as part of my apostolic year of novitiate to children at St. Columbkille School in south central Los Angeles. Most of the children struggle with poverty and learning English. Many speak only Spanish at home, creating a gap in learning.  Every school day I minister to the children through tutoring them in basic reading, writing, and math skills. I also collaborate with teachers to provide the best education possible. Most of the time I am simply present to the children, proclaiming and affirming in each child that she or he is good and loved specially by God.  In my ministry I live out the mission of Jesus and publicly witness to God's goodness in the world today and standing with the people around. I am called to educate all.
